SUBADRA DEVI

Chennai Tamilnadu

Our Fellow Subadra Devi, a social activist hailing from Neelangarai, Chennai, is a chartered accountant and entrepreneur by profession. At the age of 20, she discovered her true passion for social work. After a five-year hiatus abroad following her marriage, Subadra returned to India with a renewed determination to establish her own business. Despite the lack of financial support from her family, she successfully secured loans through a Congress government scheme, paving her way into the business world. Inspired by her personal experiences, Subadra dedicated herself to volunteering and uplifting women, Dalits, and differently-abled individuals. As an activist for "Arppor Iykkam," she played a crucial role in exposing political corruption and holding numerous politicians accountable. In 2022, Subadra founded "India United," an organization aimed at creating a secular society rooted in 'love' and combating fascist forces in India. "India united" promotes dialogue among people from diverse social backgrounds to dismantle caste-based stereotypes. Subadra joined the Indira Fellowship to enhance political literacy among women, advocating for greater female representation in decision-making roles across various fields still dominated by men. The fellowship has significantly bolstered her self-confidence and elevated her recognition within her district. Subathra Devi’s commitment and tenacity establish her as a formidable champion for equity and a source of inspiration for countless individuals.
