MONIKA MARANDI
Simdega, Jharkhand
Our Fellow Monica Marandi, a Santhal Adivasi from Jharkhand, is a young and dedicated leader acclaimed for her impactful work as a social activist and journalist. She completed her higher education in Mass Communication at IIMC, Delhi. Motivated by a deep desire to reconnect with her roots, Monika's social and political journey extends across Jharkhand and beyond. Her independent upbringing and unique outlook inspired her to uplift women who lack similar opportunities. Monika's mission is to increase the political, social, and economic presence of tribal women. In her efforts to shed light on the challenges faced by marginalized communities, Monika launched "Sakhua," an all-woman tribal news website. "Sakhua" aims to highlight issues affecting tribals and Dalits in India, bringing attention to otherwise hidden instances of violence, cultural prejudices, and systemic impoverishment. Despite encountering opposition from dominant caste men, Monika remains undeterred. She continues her crusade for empowerment through initiatives like "Chalat Musafir," providing entrepreneurial opportunities to women and amplifying the voices of the ‘silenced’. Monika Marandi's dedication and resilience make her a powerful advocate for social justice and a beacon of hope for many.
